The Initial Situation
In early 2020, Sonepar Austria launched the relaunch of their online shop. Due to the changes made, the search had deteriorated according to employees and customers. Sonepar uses the open-source search solution Elasticsearch to be able to design flexibly according to their own requirements.
The Challenge
Search for B2B target groups works differently than for end customers: professionals often search the sometimes very specialized range using article and manufacturer numbers or technical terms. Additionally, Tudock could not rely on fully prepared product data – due to the many articles and various suppliers delivering different data qualities, ways had to be found to get the best out of over 2,200 categories.
The Solution
Tudock first gained an overview of the current setup, the Elasticsearch settings, and all systems used. In addition to professional consulting, Tudock also supported the technical implementation of optimization measures, took over the configuration and further development of Elasticsearch. Additionally, Tudock introduced the Elasticsearch plugin Querqy for improved synonym processing.
The Result
The search has improved not only subjectively but also objectively. Customers now find products more easily via manufacturer or article number. The evaluation tool documents an improvement in hit rate of more than 40 percent. Sonepar was able to more than triple both revenue via search and total revenue.
